Movement: Superb original Omega automatic movement- running strongly. All functions work sharply as they should. Bracelet/Strap: Leather strap and Original Omega Stainless Steel buckle. Box/Papers: Original boxes but papers missing. Other Information: Serial number 538xxxxx. A really nice wearable watch and a great investment. As with all our watches we are pleased to provide an Insurance valuation on request. Equivalent model would cost around £3,000 today.

History of Omega watches

Louis Brands founded the company in 1848. In 1880 a collaboration began with César and Louis-Paul Brandt and as quickly as 1889 they became the largest producers of watches in Switzerland. The Omega name (suggested by the companies Banker) was adopted in 1903.

Omega have always enjoyed strong Military links. Early evidence of this was association with Royal Flying Corps 1917 and US army in 1918.

Omegas most famous moment was their collaboration with NASA when the Omega Speedmaster was adopted as the watch of choice for the Apollo space missions. So when Neil Armstrong became the first man to step on the moon he had a Omega Speedmaster Professional chronograph on his wrist.

Omega were early adopters of Quartz technology starting in 1974 with the Megaquartz and by 1983 Omega had produced 100,000 certified for quartz chronometers.

Other firsts for Omega include 1995 centrally mounted tourbillion and into the 21st century with the wide adoption of the "coaxial escapement" boasting virtually maintenance free operation.
